Nutanix MCP Server Enables Secure Hybrid Cloud AI Automation

Nutanix launches an open-source MCP server that lets AI agents automate hybrid cloud operations through governed access to Nutanix Cloud Platform.

Nutanix, a hybrid multicloud computing enterprise, has announced a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP).

Nutanix connects AI assistants to cloud infrastructure

The new server enables customers to safely use AI tools to automate daily cloud operations and is an open-source software that implements the MCP specification.

The new MCP Server for NCP acts as a secure passthrough between AI assistants – like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Cursor – to safely translate plain-English requests into precise infrastructure API actions for an organization’s hybrid multicloud environment.

It translates language requests into system actions while automatically enforcing existing corporate security and access policies.

Further, it creates a safety passthrough around AI tools, allowing IT teams to automate routine operations and build customer AI-driven workflows.

How MCP servers address multicloud AI demand

The launch of its MCP server enables Nutanix customers to build agentic AI applications that have access to a tools layer that powers secure actions on NCP. This enables IT teams to accelerate daily operations across large hybrid multicloud environments without losing visibility or control. 

The MCP server also enables AI agents and developer tools to interact with NCP through the Nutanix Prism v4 API Gateway. This Gateway handles all execution, governance, and security controls, enabling the MCP Server to provide a secure environment and supports:

  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Confines autonomous agents to executing calls only on specific APIs for which they have been granted explicit, granular authorization.
  • Throttling and metering: Implements built-in traffic regulation to help prevent agent swarm attacks while natively tracking API usage across automated workflows.
  • Auditing: Generates detailed system logs for visibility into which AI agent initiated which command.
  • Asynchronous Task Management: Offloads long-running operations as asynchronous tasks, allowing autonomous agents to efficiently track progress and execution status until completion.

IT operators can now use AI assistants to analyze system health, surface diagnostics, and stage automation workflows while maintaining operator oversight through human-in-the-loop capabilities via this server.

Developers can build custom agents and platform-ready scripts

Developers can generate platform-ready scripts in their preferred coding language by giving AI coding assistants exact system blueprints up front. This allows developer teams to configure precise security permissions through a single interface or build their own custom AI agents to automate and govern their Nutanix infrastructure from end to end.

The coding languages developers can use to generate scripts will include: Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, curl, or any REST and JSON-compatible format.
