Proofpoint is expanding its MSP Platform with new Microsoft 365 security capabilities designed to help managed service providers identify customer permission risks, streamline security management, and support the secure adoption of AI. The updates will debut in Q4 2026.
“Many organizations are currently considering which AI solution to deploy. Just as important, however, is which data and communication channels these technologies will interact with,” said Daniel Hofman, GM & EVP, Proofpoint MSP Platform. “Overly broad permissions, unclear sharing settings or a lack of confidence among employees do not arise because of AI, but its use can amplify their impact.”
New tools give MSPs visibility into Microsoft 365 risks
Among the new capabilities of the Proofpoint MSP Platform is the Tenant Risk Exposure functionality, which complements the 365 Permission Manager.
This feature provides MSPs and administrators with a visual overview of permission and sharing risks across their M365 tenants.
Further, new dashboard widgets highlight risks in relevant areas, including anonymous access, external users, organization-wide permissions, public groups, inactive guests, and orphaned accounts.
An updated user interface will help organizations maintain control over their M365 data by showing where risks exist and providing shortcuts to remediate them manually or automatically. It also provides a report that shows the current tenant status at a glance, reducing the risk of unintended or excessive access.
“Our new security capabilities for organizations using M365 help address this need by improving visibility and control, making security decisions easier to understand and supporting more effective security awareness,” Hofman said. “This gives organizations a stronger basis for adopting AI while managing the risks of an increasingly connected digital workplace.”
Proofpoint expands email security and Teams training
The new Explainability in Email Live Tracking feature is a new capability that allows the Platform to place greater emphasis on making email assessments easier to understand.
It helps security teams understand why an email may be considered suspicious or legitimate, enabling them to investigate rare false positives and potentially incorrect decisions so they can implement appropriate remediation measures more efficiently.
A new AI-powered Security Awareness Service provides continuous, tailored training to help employees identify suspicious content, interpret warnings correctly, and act securely in their day-to-day work.
Additionally, the Security Awareness Service is now extending fully automated, adaptive training to Microsoft Teams through an AI integration with .MY, the Platform’s AI Cyber Assistant.
AI assistant aims to simplify MSP security management
Proofpoint 365 Total Protection brings together multiple security layers in an integrated cybersecurity portfolio for M365.
The new AI Cyber Assistant Agent in the Control Panel enhances the panel as a smart point of contact and adds conversational, AI-powered product assistance.
Partners and administrators receive support with onboarding, configuration, product usage, and security operations to help reduce research and support effort.
For MSPs and partners, the agent also provides AI-powered support in identifying the solutions that best match individual customer needs.
The Platform can reduce the effort involved in customer consultations and help MSPs scale their security services more efficiently by enabling their partners to navigate the portfolio, translate customer pain points into relevant recommendations, and identify opportunities to extend protection.
