Genetec, Inc. recently debuted new investigation capabilities in the Genetec Security Center SaaS to assist enterprises in faster incident resolution and to help them return to daily operations more quickly – even if investigations span multiple sites, systems, and camera vendors.

Investigation experience promises efficiency in complex security environments

This new investigation experience, delivered by Genetec and building on the intelligent search capabilities that were introduced last year, enables teams to work more efficiently in complex environments.

The capabilities keep evidence, decisions, and contextual information connected from the first incident report through case closure.

The capabilities allow investigators to avoid restarting searches or duplicating work in the investigations.

“When an incident occurs, security teams must act fast and follow the investigation wherever it leads, even with limited initial details,” said Ann-Cécile Millot-Tournier, Product Group Director, Intelligent Automation, Genetec.

“Unlike tools built for closed, single-vendor systems, the new investigation capabilities in Security Center SaaS are built for enterprise environments, enabling teams to work across thousands of cameras, multiple sites, and mixed ecosystems without switching systems or launching separate searches as new leads emerge.”

Natural language search augments video feed capabilities

Investigations in the Security Center SaaS utilizes enhanced natural language search backed by AI, turning everyday descriptions into actionable searches across video feeds from multiple sites and camera brands.

As footage is identified, investigators can validate and refine findings using a timeline preview, allowing them to follow people, vehicles, and objects across scenes to visualize movement using trajectory analysis to paint a picture of how events unfold over time without needing to review hours of footage.

Insights from the Genetec Global Press Summit

At the Genetec Global Press Summit ‘26 in Montreal, Canada, Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering, and Laurent Villeneuve, Senior Manager, Product & Industry Marketing, discussed this new investigation experience.

“With these new tools, you significantly expand the surface of attack of an organization from a cyber perspective, and you have to be responsible about it,” said Morin. “We have to be responsible with how we govern the use of that information and access to that information in the same way that you have to do with human beings.”

Villeneuve demonstrated the capabilities during the Summit, showing how it can solve a range of challenges and provide value to customers.

“If we truly understand the challenges security teams face every day, that’s how we deliver better results,” said Villeneuve.

Demo shows value of solution in surfacing relevant video footage

Utilizing a real-world scenario involving equipment theft and vandalism across multiple buildings, Villeneuve used the tool to display how investigations can begin with minimal information and use natural language search to immediately surface relevant video across multiple cameras and manufacturers.

The system enables:

  • Cross-camera tracking
  • Timeline scrubbing to reconstruct events
  • Object-based search to identify when items entered or exited a scene
  • Trajectory visualization to understand movement patterns
  • Vehicle make and model identification
  • Identification of potential accomplices

“Often, all you have is a description. That’s your entry point into the investigation,” said Villeneuve. “We’re using natural language search so investigators can type what they know and immediately get meaningful results.”

As the investigation demo expanded, Villeneuve showed how the platform layers metadata from edge devices with cloud-based enrichment to surface meaningful results quickly and contextually.

Additionally, the capabilities feature built-in case and evidence management tools that allow investigators to:

  • Save and organize video clips
  • Create structured case files
  • Tag suspects and objects
  • Share evidence securely with law enforcement
  • Control access permissions

Why human oversight remains critical to security protocols

Morin and Villeneuve also stressed the importance of human oversight in AI-generated outputs via natural language search to prevent misjudgments and ensure responsible use of technology.

“What we’re doing is leveraging what’s happening at the edge … layering metadata … combining that with spatial awareness and only processing what needs to be processed,” said Morin. “So, we actually display something useful for the operator.”

Last fall, Genetec teamed with Dataminr to streamline risk intelligence and to help organizations protect people, facilities, and business continuity. Read more about this partnership and how they’re bringing AI-powered event and risk intelligence into physical security environments.
