As the federal government’s buying season kicks into high gear, distributor Tech Data wants its solution providers doing business with government agencies to take full advantage of it.

To that end, the distributor on July 30 launched a service that offers solution providers a 48-hour turnaround for preconfigured solutions destined for federal agencies. The service is an addition to Tech Data’s TedEDG offerings for government-focused VARs and integrators.

Through its Tech Data Government Integration Services, the distributor ships fully configured solutions on behalf of its solution providers directly to the government agencies nationwide.

The service, said Barb Miller, Tech Data’s vice president of government, technical and integration services, allows solution providers to focus on on-site installation.

“We’re letting the VARs know they can save time and money by letting us do the integration for them,” Miller said.

The integration and configuration work takes place at the distributor’s Swedesboro, N.J., facility, she added.

The federal buying season ramps up as the government’s fiscal year, which runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, comes to a close. Money appropriated for purchases during a fiscal year may not be available if it goes unspent after the end of the year.

In addition to the new integration and configuration service, Tech Data also is helping its government-focused solution providers comply with new NASA buying regulations. The space agency now requires a so-called DD250 form to be shipped with all purchases it makes.

Tech Data will ship orders directly to the agency with the required form on behalf of its solution providers. Without it, providers have to receive all shipments themselves and send them to NASA sites after creating, printing and affixing the proper DD250 documentation.
