Network Attached Storage specialist Synology launched
DiskStation DS411+II – a four-bay NAS server dedicated to data sharing
and backup and aimed at small and midsize businesses. The
DS411+II delivers 110.73M bps reading and 105.48M bps writing speeds
on average under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment. The
DS411+II is also designed to be energy-efficient, with 60W in operation
and 19.8W in hibernation.

Its multiple scheduled power on/off, wake on LAN/WAN, and hard drive
hibernation features are also engineered to reduce users’ energy
expenses and extends the longevity of their hard drives. In addition,
other features let the DS411+II replace multiple network devices. The
four-bay DS411+II supports 3TB hard drives, accommodating a maximum of
12TB and providing an increased capacity for data storage.

Running on a 1.8GHz dual-core processor and 1GB DDR2 RAM, the DS411+II
is equipped with one Gigabit LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports and one eSATA
port. The server is also backed by a two-year warranty. The DS411+II is
powered by DiskStation Manager 3.1 (DSM 3.1), the operating system of
every Synology DiskStation, offers features on a multitasking Web-based
user interface.

“The predecessor of the DS411+II has received tremendous awards from
media worldwide for its extensive features, easy-to-use interface, and
high reliability,” said Wayne An, product manager for Synology. “Owing
to an unabated demand for this popular DiskStation, we decided to
launch the DS411+II with better performance and enhanced features.”

The Synology EZ-Internet Wizard helps simplify the process of allowing
access to the Synology DS411+II from the Internet. The EZ-Internet
Wizard walks the user through all of the settings required including
firewall settings, port-forwarding, PPPoE setup and DDNS registration.
Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) automatically builds an optimal RAID volume
with data protection based on the hard drives installed, eliminating
the need to have hard drives of identical size, while still offering a
manual setup option for advanced users.

The DS411+ also offers a centralized backup target to consolidate
fragmented and unstructured data across the network. Integrating into a
current network structure and compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux
systems, the DS411+ provides office data redundancy and protection. PC
Users can back up their data to the Synology DS411+ using the free Data
Replicator software, while Mac OS X users can use native Apple Time
Machine integration.

A backup wizard is also provided for backing up data in the DS411+ to
another Synology DiskStation or any rsync server via an encrypted
transmission, or to an external hard drive via USB or eSATA connection.
Furthering options, the wizard also makes it possible to backup to the
cloud via Amazon S3.
