Storage subsystems provider Xyratex announced Jan. 3 that its F5402E FC-SAS /SATA RAID system will support Digital Video Systems’ selected products from its film/HD Post Production product line.

Hampshire, England-based Xyratex’s F5402E RAID supports up to 60 SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) or SATA (Serial ATA) disk drives.

“With a long-standing reputation for producing high-quality video turnkey workstations, DVS selected Xyratex to support its wide variety of software applications,” said Todd Gresham, executive vice president of the storage and network systems division at Xyratex, in a company release.

DVS, the data software and hardware provider, uses an array of different storage platforms in its post-production product offerings and will now put Xyratex’s F5402E into the DVS-SAN (storage area network), which is a data storage area for uncompressed video and digital film.

“DVS selected the F5402E for the DVS-SAN product line because the performance and scalability features make it ideally suited to the demands of post-production, multimedia and animation businesses, and these are the primary target markets for DVS,” said Juergen Heger, senior product manager of Hanover, Germany-based DVS, in the same release.

The DVS-SAN can be used in film and HD post-production locations, where large amounts of critical data must be able to be accessed by users in real time through several workstations.

Xyratex’s F5402E will go through control and integration testing in Xyratex’s manufacturing and integration facilities before being integrated into the DVS-SAN.

“This latest integration of Xyratex SAS technology underlines how solution integrators are bringing to market new storage technologies that are innovative, highly reliable, and quality driven, at a lower cost,” Gresham said.
