Sydney-based AI optimization provider Aionix has appointed former Pia executive Nic Ferraro as chief growth officer, tasking him with expanding the company’s managed service provider (MSP) partner business internationally and helping partners build recurring revenue from AI governance services.
Ferraro, who previously held COO, CRO, and chief growth officer roles at MSP automation company Pia, will lead Aionix’s commercial growth strategy, beginning with Australia and New Zealand before expanding into the U.S. and Europe in early 2027.
The appointment comes as MSPs look to capitalize on growing customer demand for AI oversight, with Aionix positioning its Managed AI offering as a way for partners to deliver AI governance, cost optimization, and security services without adding significant operational complexity.
Ferraro prioritizes MSP deployment and international expansion
Ferraro told Channel Insider that his immediate priority is to make Aionix’s Managed AI offering easy for MSPs to deploy, sell, and support.
“Make Managed AI something an MSP can pick up and sell within days: a simple commercial model, a free trial, and a client connected in about half an hour,” Ferraro said.
Aionix plans to establish its partner base in Australia and New Zealand before expanding internationally around the beginning of 2027.
The company is also developing a partner portal, AI safety guardrails, and service desk integrations to support MSPs managing multiple customer environments.
Ferraro said his experience building Pia’s channel business reinforced three priorities for successful MSP partnerships.
“I know the three questions they ask first. How do I make money, how fast can I deploy, and will this create more work for me.”
For its part, Pia said of the news that Ferraro had been a key part of building its MSP-focused approach to the market.
“Nic spent four years helping build Pia’s channel and partner programs, and he understands what MSPs need,” said David Schwartz, CEO of Pia. “As AI becomes core infrastructure, security and token economics matter more for MSPs and their clients. That’s the problem Aionix is focused on, and we wish Nic well in the role.”
Aionix outlines MSP margins and partner pricing
Aionix’s partner program uses wholesale pricing based on customer size, with a recommended retail price 1.5 times the wholesale rate. Ferraro said that provides partners with an initial gross margin of approximately 33%, with margins exceeding 50% at volume.
The program has no minimum purchase requirements or annual commitments, and MSPs retain ownership of customer relationships.
“Partners are the go-to-market,” Ferraro said. “Every MSP is a distribution point into dozens of SMB and mid-market clients we’d never reach directly.”
AI governance creates recurring services opportunities
According to Ferraro, customer demand typically begins with visibility into AI tools and usage, followed by cost management and security concerns.
Businesses increasingly need help tracking adoption across platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot, while preventing sensitive information from entering AI prompts.
For MSPs, Ferraro sees the larger opportunity extending beyond platform resale into ongoing advisory services, including policy development, employee training, license optimization, and remediation.
“A monthly service built on data, not a one-off project,” Ferraro said, describing the model.
By incorporating AI usage assessments and governance recommendations into existing quarterly business reviews, MSPs could establish ongoing customer engagements while creating additional consulting revenue.
Ferraro said the objective is to make AI management a repeatable, profitable service rather than another operational burden for providers.
