Flamingo is making its OpenFrame platform generally available, bringing AI-powered IT automation and consolidated management tools to MSPs as the industry faces growing pressure to improve efficiency and protect margins.
The company announced November 4 that OpenFrame is exiting beta with 440 active MSP tenants and another 2,500 MSPs on its waitlist. The platform combines remote monitoring and management (RMM), mobile device management (MDM), patch management, ticketing, and security monitoring with AI agents designed to execute routine IT tasks.
In an interview with Channel Insider, Flamingo CEO and founder Michael Assraf said nearly a year of beta testing helped the company better understand MSP workflows and reconsider its approach to integrations.
“In the beginning, we thought we’re not going to have any integrations, and we’re just going to build everything on our own,” Assraf said. “But now, it’s kind of proven to be a bit different.”
OpenFrame combines AI agents with IT management tools
OpenFrame includes two AI agents operating within its consolidated infrastructure. Mingo handles technician-level tasks, including scripts, policies, monitoring, and incident response, while Fae supports end users through an application installed on their devices.
According to Flamingo, Mingo can identify and remediate certain issues without waiting for a support ticket. Actions requiring human intervention are routed to technicians for approval, and the activity is logged for review.
The platform supports AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Pricing begins at $1 per device per month, including 10 million AI tokens, while a free, self-hosted version provides open-source tooling without AI agents.
Assraf said MSP feedback also revealed uncertainty surrounding AI consumption and customer billing.
“No one had figured out usage-based billing with AI tokens in the industry market yet,” he said, noting that partners repeatedly requested ways to limit customer consumption.
Rather than simply restricting usage, Flamingo is exploring billing capabilities that could allow MSPs to pass AI consumption costs to customers, creating another revenue stream alongside traditional per-seat agreements.
MSP costs and AI billing shape platform development
Assraf believes the opportunity extends beyond consolidating management tools as smaller MSPs face increasing competition and rising vendor costs.
“They are getting squeezed, because the price for services is going to go down as roll-ups and equity enter the market, plus their costs are going to go up, as vendors charge more,” he said.
For providers operating on relatively narrow margins, Assraf argued that automation and consolidated tooling could become increasingly important to maintaining profitability.
“We try to help them build more efficient businesses,” he said, rather than replacing MSPs or acquiring their customers.
However, Assraf acknowledged that the transition requires substantial operational changes for providers accustomed to established PSA, RMM, and remote-access systems.
“We’re not saying, okay, guys, let’s just make this process a bit better,” he said. “We’re saying, let’s erase it and rebuild it.”
That transition, he acknowledged, may be too disruptive for some providers today. Assraf told Channel Insider he knows not every MSP will find OpenFrame worth the effort today or even next year, but he feels strongly that the company is building a foundation most providers will need in the long term.
Flamingo plans additional security and AI services
Flamingo’s roadmap includes additional productivity and security capabilities, such as backup, endpoint protection, and a planned marketplace that connects MSP customers with third-party AI agents.
Assraf said the objective is to shift providers’ attention away from repetitive support work and toward emerging opportunities in AI services.
“We want to have the IT security on autopilot,” he said, allowing MSPs to focus on “newer, more interesting revenue streams.”
The company also plans to introduce Stripe integration to support billing workflows.
For Assraf, the longer-term opportunity is not simply reducing the cost of existing IT services but helping MSPs develop new offerings as AI changes how technology work is delivered.
