AvePoint has launched a new continuous data classification capability designed to help organizations identify sensitive information as files, permissions, and AI usage change over time.
The company’s Kinetic Classification feature repeatedly reassesses enterprise data rather than relying on static labels, while new Rapid Recovery capabilities use that intelligence to help organizations prioritize which systems and data to restore first after an outage or cyberattack.
Together, the updates expand AvePoint’s Trust Layer for AI and reflect a broader shift toward treating AI governance, data security, and cyber recovery as connected operational priorities.
Kinetic Classification continuously reassesses sensitive data
The new Kinetic Classification capability is designed to solve a growing problem for organizations deploying AI: data does not stay the same.
Rather than assigning a sensitivity label once and leaving it unchanged, the feature continuously reevaluates files as access permissions change, content evolves, AI agents interact with data, or labels expire. The goal is to help security teams identify sensitive information before it is exposed to AI systems instead of discovering the issue during a later audit.
“These capabilities are great examples of how we enable AI trust within organizations all around the world,” said John Peluso, chief technology officer at AvePoint.
According to AvePoint, the classification engine works across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and several business platforms, including GitHub, ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, and AWS S3.
AvePoint survey reveals an AI security confidence gap
The launch comes as AvePoint says many organizations remain confident in their AI security posture despite ongoing data exposure incidents.
The company’s 2026 State of AI Report found that 82.7% of organizations described themselves as “very” or “extremely” confident in their ability to prevent unauthorized access to data. However, 72% of respondents in the “very confident” group reported experiencing an AI-related unauthorized access incident during the previous 12 months.
AvePoint said the findings suggest organizations need stronger operational controls around identifying sensitive data as AI adoption expands.
“The next wave of AI governance starts with the data itself,” said John Hodges, chief product officer at AvePoint. “Our 2026 State of AI Report makes clear that organizations aren’t struggling with ambition; they’re struggling with readiness: knowing what data is sensitive, who owns it, how it changes, and whether it should be used by AI in the first place.”
Combined tools connect AI governance with cyber resilience
Alongside Kinetic Classification, AvePoint updated its Rapid Recovery platform with new features intended to speed up recovery after security incidents.
The enhancements include intelligent recommendations that identify the most important data to restore first, a Rapid Recovery Wizard for creating recovery plans in advance, and Express Recovery for Entra ID to extend recovery capabilities to identity services.
AvePoint said the recovery features are designed to work alongside Kinetic Classification, allowing organizations to identify critical data continuously and prioritize restoring it first during an outage or cyberattack.
MSPs and channel partners look to AI governance as new opportunity
For MSPs, MSSPs, and other channel partners, the updates create an opportunity to move AI governance discussions beyond policy and into ongoing data management, identity protection, and recovery planning.
As customers expand their use of AI, partners will increasingly need to help them understand where sensitive data resides, how access changes over time, and which systems must be restored first when an incident occurs.
AvePoint’s approach positions continuous classification as the link between those security and resilience requirements, giving partners another framework for building managed services around AI readiness, data protection, and business continuity.
