SAP is seeing continued success with its HANA platform and has made inroads in the cloud and mobile spaces and has set its sights on IoT and big data.
1. SAP was founded in 1972 by five IBM engineers who acquired an early version of the software from Big Blue in exchange for 8 percent of founding stock given to IBM. SAP is now the third-largest independent software manufacturer.
2. In July 2014, SAP registered as a European Company (Societas Europaea, SE) and is now known as SAP SE to better reflect the company’s global reach.
3. SAP HANA continues to be a major growth driver. In Q1 2015, SAP HANA customers exceeded 6,400, almost doubling from a year earlier.
