Hewlett-Packard announced Jan. 22 that it plans to acquire Exstream Software, which offers "variable data publishing,"—an enterprise system for compiling and delivering customized content and delivering it to an "audience of one."

HP officials said in a statement that the technology will enable its customers to better communicate "relevant, personalized information to their customers through a broad range of channels."

For channel partners the deal will offer the simplicity of working with a single vendor for document automation, document output management solutions, and imaging and printing products, HP said.
The Palo Alto, Calif., company said it will acquire privately held Exstream, a portfolio company of American Capital Strategies with 300 employees based in Lexington, Ky.  Financial terms were not disclosed.

Upon completion of the acquisition, Exstream will be integrated into HP’s Web Services and Software business unit within the Imaging and Printing Group of the company.
