Liquid cooling technology provider Motivair by Schneider Electric has unveiled a new 2.5MW Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) designed to cool high-density data centers at scale.
The company says the MCDU-70 is its highest-capacity CDU to date, built to meet the demands of next-generation GPUs and gigawatt-scale AI factories.
Proven liquid cooling that scales with customers’ needs
As the newest addition to Motivair’s CDU line, the MCDU-70’s capacity aligns with the needs of large-scale facilities, including the NVIDIA Omniverse DSX Blueprint.
At 2.5 MW each, six MCDU-70s can provide a 4+2 redundancy for these designs, and Motivair says the unit’s capacity is fit to service NVIDIA’s GPU roadmap for the foreseeable future.
“AI isn’t slowing down. Our solutions are designed to keep pace with chip and silicon evolution — delivering next-gen performance when it matters most,” said Rich Whitmore, chief executive officer at Motivair by Schneider Electric.
“Data center success now hinges on delivering scalable, reliable, efficient infrastructure solutions that match the next generation of AI Factory deployments. We’re meeting that moment with proven liquid cooling solutions that scale with our customers’ needs,” Whitemore added.
Moltivair touts efficiency and reliability gains
Motivair’s CDUs use Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure software and operate as a centralized system, scaling to 10MW+ to support next-gen HPC, AI, and accelerated computing workloads.
In its official press release, Motivair emphasized how GPUs powering AI factories generate “20 to 50 times more heat” than traditional CPUs — raising the stakes for capacity-matched liquid cooling at scale.
Key features of the MCDU-70 include:
- Capacity and Efficiency: Dual heat exchangers support proper parallel filtration at minimal system pressure drop and maintain the industry target of 1.5 LPM per kW while protecting system efficiency.
- Performance and Reliability: Each CDU model undergoes rigorous real-world condition testing, enabling digital twin simulations and end-of-line testing in which pumps run at full load at the end of the production line. Schneider Electric’s global network of experts also supports customers from design through maintenance.
- Designed to Scale: The MCDU-70 is part of a broader CDU lineup designed with a scalable, building-block approach, ensuring operators have the flexibility to choose the right model that meets their specific AI deployment goals.
Availability worldwide
The MCDU-70 is now available to order globally via Schneider Electric’s advanced manufacturing hubs in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Motivair says the addition of the new CDU expands its end-to-end liquid cooling portfolio, allowing it to offer CDUs ranging from 105kW to 2.5MW that meet both current and future performance requirements in the enterprise and data center markets.
