Patch management and configuration vendor, LANDesk, is adding HIP technology to the overall solution VARs can offer customers.

Patch management security vendor LANDesk has added integrated host intrusion protection to its portfolio of offerings.

The new technology will help VARs offer their customers endpoint protection from zero-day threats, according to Devin Anderson, business line manager at the subsidiary of Avocent, in Huntsville, Ala.

Anderson said the technology is available to its VARs starting April 23. LANDesk sells 100 percent through the channel.

"This addition is valuable to our channel partners because it lets them sell a solution into a business," Anderson said, rather than just point products. Previously LANDesk customers relied on anti-virus software for network protection. The new technology takes protection a step further, protecting against threats that haven't yet been identified.

LANDesk's HIP system uses rules-based technology that looks at network traffic and machine behavior to identify anomalies or incidents of security policy violations based on predefined rules set by security and IT administrators.

LANDesk said the new system integrates closely with its existing security suite to offer integrated patch, anti-virus and anti-spyware management, NAC (network access control), mobile device security and HIP in a single management console and blended solution.
