Itemfield, a maker of universal data transformation software, announced Oct. 16 that it has started a new collaboration with Oracle.

The company, based in San Mateo, Calif., said that it would begin to integrate its ContentMaster software, which automates data transformation, with Oracle's Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2.

Itemfield's software transforms data into high-performance and transaction-intensive applications as well as SOA (service-oriented architectures).

The integration of the two products will allow customers of Oracle's Warehouse Builder to handle both unstructured data, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, or semi-structured data, such as EDI (Electronic Data Interchange).

"Oracle customers can now seamlessly integrate unstructured and semi-structured data for ETL, data quality and auditing, fully integrated relational and dimensional modeling and full life-cycle management of data and metadata," according to an Itemfield statement.

On Oct. 9, Oracle announced that it purchased Sunopsis, a Massachusetts company that produces data integration software.

With the purchase of Sunopsis and then new collaboration with Itemfield, Oracle is offering its warehouse and data management customers additional functionality, while keeping ahead of competition from IBM and Microsoft.

The new integrated solution from Itemfield and Oracle is immediately available to customers and the two companies will offer demonstration at Oracle's OpenWorld in San Francisco on Oct. 21 and 22.
