Wireless LAN vendor Extricom has appointed Ingram Micro as its first broadline distributor as it looks to expand its reach across North America.

The vendor, which provides converged data, voice and video services, has previously been distributed through niche providers, according to David Confalonieri, vice president of marketing at Extricom.

"We began shipping with Ingram in the summer, but it is now official and want to make the channel aware of this. Ingram now has the tools and support networks in place to deal with solution providers looking to get into wireless," he said. "Ingram will expose us to thousands of VARs and has been aggressive in the past few months in the channel so this is part of that strategy."

He added that Ingram will have access to Extricom's entire product portfolio, inlcudig its flagship Interference-Free wireless LAN system.

"Ingram is strongly committed to providing innovative Wi-Fi products for our solution provider and system integrator customers," said Ken Bast, vice president of vendor management, Ingram Micro, in a statement. "The technology's combination of simplicity and higher performance offers an unmatched 'one-two punch' that enables the solution provider to pursue wireless projects of all sizes without incurring the deployment challenges traditionally seen in this space."

Previously, Confalonieri said Extricom had a direct relationship with its VARs. "We will still have some direct touch, but our solution providers saw a value in having Ingram from a logistical and support point of view."
