Cynthia L. Bates, General Manager, U.S. Small Business, Small and Midmarket Solutions & Partners Group

Bates is responsible for helping Microsoft get ever closer to the 5.5 million SMBs (small and midsize businesses) in the United States. She has been part of Microsoft's push to make SMBs more tech-savvy, using partners and the Web to help drive the SMB business forward. She has helped to develop a number of Microsoft's partner portals, including the Microsoft Small Business + site. She has held this role for two years and was previously a managing director for corporate development and strategy at Microsoft.
