  • 1. Know Your Source
    Purchase products only from reputable distributors or direct from vendors. Steer clear of unknown Internet storefronts and phone solicitations for bargain goods and software.
  • 2. Don't Fall for a Good Price
    Counterfeit equipment and pirated software are priced much lower than their legal counterparts. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
  • 3. Check the Product
    Most vendors have information on their Web sites on how to verify if a product is genuine. It's useful information to know, even if you don't think you have any counterfeits.
  • 4. Verify the Serial Number
    Check the serial number of the product with the vendor. That's the fastest way to know if a product is genuine can save headaches down the line if warranty issues arise.
  • 5. Report Counterfeiting
    If you believe you purchased fake product from a third-party source, contact the vendor and report the source. You may be compensated for your trouble.
