Tech Data, one of the largest global IT distributors, is celebrating its 40th year in business with fiscal 2014 sales of $26.8 billion. With some accounting issues, caused by irregularities in the way its U.K. subsidiary reflected its vendor accounting in fiscal years 2011, 2012 and part of 2013, now in the rearview mirror, the IT distributor can continue to focus on supporting its channel reseller partners with product offerings for disruptive technologies it believes will affect the channel in the next several years. These include cloud computing, bring-your-own-device (BYOD) practices, big data, social media and "always-on/always-connected" with an emphasis on the changing IT landscape in the areas of data centers, software, mobility and consumer electronics (around connectivity and the Internet of things). To ensure that it meets its channel partners' customer needs, the IT distributor shows a broad product mix in FY14: 46 percent broadline, 23 percent data center, 18 percent software, 9 percent mobility and 4 percent consumer electronics. Channel Insider highlights key moves Tech Data has made recently in these areas.
