Kaseya Security Solution Protects MSPsBy Gina Roos | Print
Modernizing Authentication — What It Takes to Transform Secure Access
Kaseya's AuthAnvil MSP Protect safeguards MSPs from security breaches and provides a security-as-a-service offering to help them expand their business.
Kaseya, a provider of IT management solutions for managed service providers (MSPs) and mid-market enterprises, has released a custom-built security solution for MSPs to protect them from security breaches. The AuthAnvil MSP Protect solution also provides a security-as-a-service offering to help MSPs grow their revenue.
The solution includes security features—such as single sign-on (SSO), two-factor authentication (2FA) and Password Server—that are designed to help MSPs prevent and mitigate security breaches. This has become an increasingly bigger challenge for them. Over the past year, the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS') National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC) found multiple malware campaigns targeted at several industries. Several of the victims were IT service providers, and the hackers were able to gain full access to networks and data.
Kaseya noted the recent targeting of MSPs by the Chinese hacker operation APT10, according to an alert issued by the DHS. The list of DHS mitigation recommendations includes two-factor authentication using out-of-band technology.
The two-factor authentication feature requires a password and something a user has or possesses, such as a token or smartphone app-based token, or something unique to the person, such as a fingerprint or iris scan.
Single sign-on allows users to access all their applications, websites and cloud services by entering a single password. Combined with two-factor authentication, SSO eliminates the problem of weak passwords. It also increases productivity because users are no longer required to enter or remember complex passwords.
AuthAnvil also offers integrations with several key MSP tools, including Kaseya, ConnectWise, Autotask, Labtech, N-able, IT Glue and Continuum. The feature set for identity and access security, coupled with key tools integration, can create an opportunity for MSPs to offer security services.
"Kaseya continues to innovate our core security technology, not only to stay two steps ahead of ever-evolving threats, but also with the mindset of how our innovations will help our customers grow their business," said Jim Lippie, Kaseya's general manager, cloud computing. "AuthAnvil MSP Protect was created to make it easy for our customers to perform the formidable task of protecting their critical systems and data.
"In a time when the threat of cyber-attacks has never been greater, it's imperative that MSPs choose the right solution to secure their investments. That's why we developed MSP Protect to cater to the specific requirements of our MSPs, and also to provide an opportunistic solution that can enable them to grow their bottom line."
