Western Digital’s CEO said channel inventory of hard drives is “measurably less than when we exited December.”

Matthew Massengill, CEO of Western Digital, also said WD is attempting to boost prices on faster-selling models in an effort to correct last year’s inventory imbalances. His comments came at the Thomas Weisel Partners Tech 2004 conference in San Francisco last week.

Major drive manufacturers, including Western Digital and Maxtor, complained last quarter that offshore distributors underestimated their sales out of the channel to pressure vendors into lowering prices.
