Hewlett-Packard is offering its Business Technology Optimization portfolio as a service to help users better manage their software implementations—without actually having to implement a complicated management environment in house.

The company announced Oct. 15 that it will offer its BTO portfolio in a SAAS (software as a service) model. BTO is essentially a compilation of IT service management software. The suite consists of four products: Business Availability Center, Quality Center, Performance Center, and Project and Portfolio Management Center.

Business Availability Center manages the health of business services and applications. It also helps to optimize their availability and performance.

Quality Center governs quality processes and automates software testing across application environments. It also manages the release process to help users make more informed decisions, company officials said.

Performance Center helps with the analysis and validation of application performance against business requirements.

Finally, Project and Portfolio Management Center standardizes, manages and captures the execution of project and operational activities. It also provides information to help users make decisions.

HP has a hefty SAAS customer base already built up, including about 670 companies—large and small—in a number of industries. HP said in a statement that new customers can be up in a matter of weeks with its BTO on-demand service.

“HP SAAS enables customers to immediately gain the benefit of our software without significant startup costs and training,” said Marc Olesen, vice president of software as a service at HP. “With our BTO software offering, customers can focus on their critical IT business initiatives while HP focuses on enabling their IT organization to operate more efficiently.”
