Solution Providers to Vie for Tight IT Dollars

By Michael Vizard

Although the total amount of money spent on IT may add up to trillions of dollars, the average IT budget per organization in 2015 remains below $300,000, according to the findings of a survey of 600 IT professionals from North America and the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) conducted by Spiceworks, a provider of IT management tools delivered as a service. It’s little wonder then that solution providers across the channel find themselves battling for IT dollars, account by account. More challenging still is the fact that most of that spending is distributed across a broad range of categories although only a small percentage of it is actually directed toward high-margin managed services opportunities. The good news is that only a quarter of the IT pros surveyed said they plan to hire additional staff. That should mean that as the IT environment continues to get more complex, IT organizations should be looking for some additional outside help. Meanwhile, however, solution providers would do well to keep an eye out for equipment replacement opportunities. Here are key takeaways from the study.
