Optimism for the Channel Is Growing in 2017

Tech vendors increasingly rely on distributors, and that will continue to grow with new business models stemming from the cloud, mobility, security and vertical market specializations. A new report from the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) cites the cloud, security and data center technologies as some of the biggest opportunities for channel partners in 2017. According to vendor channel executives, the cloud is where partners will make the most progress this year, as they build more services and solutions around the technology. The "Insights into 2017" report, which surveyed 70 vendor and 20 distribution executives, also predicts other big changes ahead. One example is the area of hyper-converged solutions, which is changing the way distributors sell data center solutions. Also, as cyber-threats continue to grow, the channel is targeting new security partnerships to offer more integrated solutions and platform-based ecosystems. In fact, channel executives expect the entire IT supply chain—vendors, distributors and solution providers—to work together to bring ready-made industry-specific solutions to market more quickly. Here are some solid reasons why the business outlook for the channel looks promising this year.
