BYOD Trend Creates Opportunities for the Channel

Does Your Organization Have a BYOD Policy? Most organizations are still playing catch-up with BYOD. Yes – 41 %, No, but plan to have one – 17%, No – 41%, Don’t Know – 1%

Mobile computing, in general, and the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) phenomenon, in particular, have always been a challenge for the channel. Not only are the margins associated with mobile computing devices particularly slim, when employees bring their own devices to work, there isn’t even a transaction. A new global survey of 4,374 IT and security professionals conducted by The Ponemon Group on behalf of Acronis, a provider of backup and recovery products, finds that BYOD might finally be reaching enough critical mass to create some significant opportunities for the channel. Many IT organizations are now re-examining the policies and tools they have in place to manage endpoints in the era of BYOD and the cloud. That creates an opportunity for solution providers to work with customers to develop new IT management frameworks that take into account the fact that every device that needs to be managed may not actually be owned by the organization. The survey also finds that Apple devices are gaining more traction within the enterprise. With these changes comes new IT management challenges that most organizations are going to look to the channel to help solve.
