Cloud security
Many IT decision makers consider security to be better in cloud versus on-premise environments. We look at the state of cloud security today.
48% more security technologies are deployed in the cloud than on premises. On average, security services were deployed 1.5 times more often in the cloud than in the data center.
55% of respondents said the cloud uses better technology compared to on premises, and 56% said security technology is more consistently applied in the cloud.
Customers need more help from their cloud providers for integrating security technology (52%), improving security reporting (49%) and improving security analytics (44%).
47% of security personnel said they “simply trust” their cloud providers are delivering on security agreements without further verification.
Security/compliance features (15%) now top the list of priorities when selecting a cloud provider, followed by performance/elasticity (13%), reliability/service-level agreements (11%), cost (9%) and management tools (9%).
The top challenges that organizations need their cloud providers to address better were security-related. This includes integrating security technology (19%), providing security reporting (18%) and leveraging security analytics (16%).
Top security deployments include virtual firewall (82%), multifactor authentication (81%), intrusion detection/protection (80%), compliance certification and attestations (79%), and on-demand security reporting (79%).
48% of respondents using cloud security services were evaluating more services to further increase security.
Cloud customers are willing to pay more for services such as VM encryption, on-demand compliance reporting, role-based access control, advanced persistent threat/advanced targeted attack protection, and data-in-motion encryption.
96% of security pros acknowledge that their organizations have compliance-related workloads in the cloud, compared with only 69% of IT teams.
