Cloud software development
Although cloud computing has clearly come of age, an era is just now dawning in which the cloud is now the default option for deploying application workloads.
70% of respondents deploy software on-premise while 21% use a hybrid cloud/on-premise combination.
86% plan to use the cloud for software deployment in the future or are doing so already, while 40% plan to make the shift in the next two years.
Elimination of on-site infrastructure (64%) is the primary advantage of deploying software from the cloud, followed by faster deployments (48%), less administration (48%) and lower costs (36%).
37% are using management software deployed in the cloud to manage less than 10% of their systems. Meanwhile, 23% use this approach to manage 10% to 39% of their systems. But 26% said they never use this approach.
For the 70% of respondents who currently use on-premise software in their organizations, the biggest barriers to using a cloud-based software deployment model are a lack of technical experience (26%), not enough controls over software being deployed (25%) and cost (22%).
While 14% said they’ll never switch to software deployment in the cloud, respondents were generally evenly split regarding security. Just over half (51%) said they believe cloud-based software deployment did not pose a security risk.
When it comes to Windows 10, 30% of respondents plan to use the cloud to migrate endpoints from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10.
More than half (58%) said software deployment through the cloud would make their jobs easier.
