Technology vendors are still struggling to rebound from the recession after five years, and the delayed recovery is taking a toll on their hiring plans, according to a recent survey from CareerBuilder and Sologig.com. About one-third of IT hiring managers and HR professionals polled said their companies continue to deal with fallout from that history-making downturn (often dubbed "The Great Recession"), and roughly the same portion say their staff size is smaller than it was before the economy dramatically declined. As a consequence, they're facing difficulties attracting and retaining strong tech talent, with morale, compensation, staffing burnout and productivity levels emerging as primary concerns. "The top issues in 2014 will be the retention and recruitment of high-skill talent," said Eric Presley, chief technology officer at CareerBuilder. "The most in-demand workers are attracting lucrative offers nationwide, meaning employers have to recognize and incentivize their best talent to stay ahead of the competition."
