We have a winner! Of the 12 vendors cited on the Dire Predictions list last January, Sun is the only one that was acquired. In the first quarter, IBM waged a rather embarrassing battle to buy Sun. When talks fell apart, Oracle swept in and picked up the former Silicon Valley high flier for a song. The deal is still pending European regulatory clearance, but it looks as though it will finally go through.
