NetGear Focuses New Products on Midmarket BusinessBy Jessica Davis | Print
The company increases incentive percentages for partners and rolls out a series of new switches and other products that bring advanced features to SMBs.
NetGear also announced a series of products designed for the SMB space, which Sanjay Kumar, director of product marketing for switching products at NetGear, said makes up 35 percent of worldwide IT spending.
"You see so many enterprise vendors trying to rush into this market," Kumar said. "Many companies end up paying lip service to the segment, using a one-size-fits-all approach. Cisco and HP will try to shoehorn products to fit, but it ends up being a clumsy solution at the end of the day."
Kumar said NetGear's products are designed for the SMB market and provide the high-end features without the complexity. In that way they are designed to take NetGear into the "M" part of SMB, serving midmarket sites of 250 or more users, the company said.
The products include the ProSafe 24- and 48-Port Gigabit Smart Switches with Static Routing (GS724TR and GS748TR), ProSafe 24-Port Gigabit Smart Switch with Advanced Features (GS724AT), ProSafe 802.11n Dual Band Wireless Access Point (WNDAP330), and ReadyNAS Pro 6-Bay Gigabit Desktop Storage (RNDP6000).
The new switches offer security and enhanced traffic management and incorporate quality of service and high availability. In addition, according to NetGear's announcement, the switches are the first on the market to offer static routing capability, which allows businesses to offload inter-VLAN routing traffic from the core to optimize bandwidth efficiency.
The GS724TR and GS748TR feature 24 or 48 10/100/1000 ports and two or four
shared SFP ports and support 32 static
routes to enable inter-VLAN routing, manage broadcast storms more effectively
and deliver tighter security, according to NetGear. Optional fiber connectivity
enables deployment of bandwidth-intensive applications such as VOIP (voice over
IP) and videoconferencing.
NetGear's ReadyNAS Pro Gigabit Desktop Storage products are part of the company's ReadyNAS family of network attached storage solutions. ReadyNAS Pro offers high availability to stored data through dual-redundant Gigabit Ethernet ports and support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6.
NetGear's ProSafe 802.11n Dual Band Wireless Access Point (WNDAP330) incorporates 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) to eliminate power cables and simplify installation.
