The volume of data generated by the average business is doubling every 18 months. That’s the average business; many businesses are seeing data volumes increasing at exponentially higher rates. Applications from e-mail to RFID sensors are generating copious amounts of information on an hourly basis. Retaining and storing all that data is a logistical and technological nightmare for businesses. Businesses continue to search for the right storage solution and are investing heavily in disc arrays, tape, off-site storage and storage virtualization.
