Among the vendors likely to be the most aggressive are Lenovo, which is trying to move upstream into the data center following its acquisition of IBM's x86 server business.
 

Solution providers across the channel have had mixed feelings about both Dell and EMC over the years. Both have historically made investments in building some of the most sophisticated direct sales force teams that are often in conflict with channel partners. At the same time, the two companies in recent years have made major strides in improving their relationships across the channel. While the $67 billion dollar deal to merge the two companies is a long way from completion, solution providers are already dealing with an enterprise IT market that has fundamentally changed overnight. Top of mind for EMC and Dell will be getting existing customers to continue to invest in products and services at a time when they are not quite sure which products will be rationalized after a merger that won't officially close until the middle of next year. Meanwhile, vendors, such as Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Cisco and IBM, are sure to increase the rewards they offer their partners for enticing those customers to shift that spending in their direction while waiting to see what ultimately emerges from the combined Dell and EMC entity once the deal is complete in mid-2016.
