VARs Get More Options for Electronic Medical Records Six months ago VARs looking to help their health care customers get up to speed with electronic medical records and take advantage of economic stimulus funds were mostly out of luck because few IT vendors offering EMRs were channel-friendly. But in June Synnex announced a partnership with EMR vendor Allscripts, and now Ingram Micro is set to announce a partnership with an EMR vendor, too. Ingram Micro CEO Says Windows 7 Not Panacea, but Still Positive IT distribution giant Ingram Micro reports better-than-expected results for its third quarter, attributing them to a better demand environment, better currency conditions, and its proactive efforts to engage customers and vendors. And CEO Greg Spierkel says while the company does not view Windows 7 as a panacea, it believes Microsoft's new operating system will make a positive impact on sales in 2010 and into 2011. Ingram Micro and VAR Resources Offer End-User Leasing to Channel Offering end-user leasing can help VARs close the deal, so IT distributor Ingram Micro has joined forces with VAR Resources to offer a new leasing program through the channel to user organizations. Netbooks Drive Higher Technology Sales in First Quarter Notebooks, network security, VOIP, MFPs and server products drove sales growth for D H Distributing and its SMB resellers in the distributor's first fiscal quarter, and the company tells Channel Insider that Microsoft Windows 7 will mean opportunities for pent up demand at the end of 2009 and into 2010. Tech Data Q2 Revenue Up Sequentially, Net Income Soars 59% Technology distributor Tech Data reports it saw revenues grow sequentially for its second quarter while net income grew by 59 percent year over year. Distributor Avnet Misses Quarter Profit Expectations The electronics components and computer products distributor Avnet said that its profitability -- the company posted a loss -- was hurt by an unfavorable geographic mix. IT Distributor Ingram Micro Quarter Sales Down 25% Ingram Micro (NYSE:IM) CEO Greg Spierkel tells Channel Insider that the worst seems to be over, but that doesn't mean that a recovery is coming tomorrow. IT distributor Ingram Micro's second-quarter sales showed a 25 percent decline year over year, but sequentially sales fell just 2 percent -- a normal seasonal amount. Ingram Micro Pays $15M Fine for Channel Stuffing Scheme IT distributor Ingram Micro and IT security vendor McAfee engaged in an elaborate channel stuffing scheme over two years at the height of the dot-com boom that artificially boosted Ingram Micro's profit margins and McAfee's revenues. Now Ingram Micro has paid a $15 million fine, adding to one paid by McAfee in 2006. The funds will be distributed to McAfee shareholders. Westcon Places Big Bets on Managed Services Collaborative service intended to enable VARs to develop and brand a service and support capability with network level support to help foster long-term, strategic relationships with end-user customers. Tech Data Opens Apple Lab for iPhone, iPod and Apple Computers While the iPod, iPhone and Apple computers are considered consumer products, small businesses, medium businesses and enterprise businesses have become more open to integrating Apple products into their technology environments. Now IT resellers and channel partners can demonstrate the value of that to end customers at distributor Tech Data's new Apple Lab. The news comes as speculation rises about whether Wal-Mart will soon be carrying Apple computers.
