Although Microsoft may be the house the channel helped build, there is no denying that Apple has become a force to be reckoned with in the enterprise. A new survey of 480 executives, managers and IT professionals conducted by JAMF Software, a provider of IT management software optimized for Apple systems and devices, finds that three out of four respondents now favor Apple Mac systems over Windows. However, for solution providers, the most interesting aspect of the study might be how broadly Apple systems and devices are now made available across the enterprise. Most companies offer employees a computer and/or mobile device choice. Just as significantly, there's not much difference as far as the size of the organization when it comes to offering a choice of technology platforms to employees. For solution providers that are Windows-centric, the rise of Apple is, no doubt, disturbing, but for those that adapt to the inevitably of Apple in the enterprise, the need to support Windows alongside Apple creates both challenges to and opportunities for managed services. We look at key study findings that illustrate this.
