With more emphasis placed on digital business processes than ever, IT is clearly being more tightly woven into the business. As a result, the role of the CIO inside most businesses is rapidly evolving. A survey of nearly 4,000 global CIOs conducted by the IT staffing firm Harvey Nash and KPMG finds that most are pretty confident of their own digital skills but have serious doubts about the organizations for which they work. As a result, churn across the CIO ranks remains fairly high as demand for CIOs with digital expertise spanning the entire enterprise continues to grow. "Whether it's the 'big' things like the board looking for guidance about how technology can create new business models, to the more prosaic, like walking into an executive meeting and seeing a peer proudly accessing the network holding a non-standard (and perhaps non-secure) new device, the CIO sees it all," reads the report. In the meantime, solution providers across the channel would do well to note that while IT spending is on the rise and there is more dependence on outside help than ever, the places where CIOs are looking for the most help are definitely changing.
