Chipmaker Spansion Sues Samsung for Infringement
The patent infringement lawsuit by Spansion seeks to ban the import of Apple iPod and RIM Blackberry products to the United States. Spansion's lawsuit against Samsung Electronics would affect more than 100 million MP3 players, cell phones, digital cameras and other consumer electronic products that contain Samsung flash memory components, including Apple iPod and RIM Blackberry products.
Merrill Lynch cuts Dell, Shares Fall
PC maker Dell's stock prices fell as Merrill Lynch downgraded the company citing a deteriorating PC market. Merrill Lynch expects PC unit growth to decline 2 percent in 2009, compared to the company's estimate of a 12 percent increase. Dell's competitor HP reports its quarterly results next week.
AMD Announces Fast, Energy-Saving Chip
AMD has released Shanghai, a 45-nanometer processor in AMD's server line, Opteron. Shanghai is a quad core processor that is designed for energy efficiency and optimized for virtualization, AMD says.
