EMC SourceOne Intros Information Governance for Microsoft SharePoint 2010

EMC Corp is taking advantage of today’s launch of Microsoft SharePoint 2010 with the announcement of an addition to its information governance family of modular, integrated products for archiving, compliance and e-discovery solution, EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint delivers operational control, compliance and e-discovery capabilities without impacting end-users.

That can reduce costs, improve system scalability and performance, and ensure compliance, according to the company, which is looking to capitalize on the U.S. market for Microsoft SharePoint that is expected to surpass $5 billion by 2012.

EMC’s Gabriela Garner, director of product marketing, tells Channel Insider that this announcement really extends its information governance suite for SharePoint and leverages the Kazeon acquisition. “It’s not archiving, but information governance. We know there is viral growth, it’s explosive… and customers need help to control it.” And with EMC’s building block approach, customers can start today with SharePoint and grow into email management or other applications as required, she says.

EMC SourceOne eDiscovery - Kazeon is available now, and SourceOne for SharePoint is expected to ship at the end of June 2010. It will support SharePoint 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3. Garner says the product has been in controlled release for a month with several large customers, and the initial response has been very positive. “It’s a win-win for customers… cutting costs … simplifying e-discovery – and managing risk.”

According to a prepared statement from IDC’s Laura Dubois, with the incredibly viral nature of SharePoint, IT tends to lose control creating an information governance risk. “The EMC SourceOne for SharePoint puts the control back to IT by allowing them to set up policies for retention and disposition thereby freeing up needed storage space and system capacity.”
