Online IT services marketplace OnForce recorded a return to pricing stability and installation work in the third quarter – good news for a market that’s been battered by a recession and leaning on break/fix work. OnForce released some of the key market trends from its third quarter. Here are the factors at play in today’s IT marketplace.
- Prices Stabilize
OnForce says the marketplace saw price stabilization for the second quarter in a row. OnForce notes that the Projector category earned the highest hourly rate compared to all other categories. Average work order value for this category was $227 in Q3.
- Lowest Paying Job
PC desktop came in as the least expensive onsite service category in Q3, with an average work order value of $98.
- Installation vs. Break/Fix Work
Installation work grew by 4 percent in the third quarter while the total number of break/fix events declined by 3 percent from the second quarter.
- Work Order Volume: Top Jobs
Top categories in work order volume were
PC desktop 30% (down from 32% in Q2)
TV/Video 16% (down from 19% in Q2)
Network 15% (up from 13% in Q2)
Printer 9% (steady compared to Q2)
- Fastest Growing in Work Order Volume
The fastest growing work order category in terms of volume: VOIP /Telephony. This category also experienced the greatest decrease in work order value when compared to any other category.
- The Biggest Paycheck
Home theater onsite service was the most expensive category of services within the consumer electronics category.
- Least Expensive Geographies
The least expensive states for onsite services in Q3 were Maine, New Hampshire and Nevada. Q2’s least expensive states were Kentucky, West Virginia and Maryland.
- Most Expensive Geographies

- Top Volume Cities
Cities with the greatest onsite service volume for the fourth quarter in a row were Houston, Chicago and New York.
