Both Hewlett-Packard and Dell introduced their new budget-friendly "back-to-school" computer lines Wednesday, with dual-core processing options and foot-tall mini towers with serious noise control.
The new HP lineup includes a handful of new HP Pavilion Desktop PCs, Media Center PCs, Compaq Presario PCs and a new 21-inch-wide flat-panel monitor.
Retail stores will be carrying certain models of each, and others will be available from the HP Web site.
"Students and families are demanding more bang for their PC buck, whether it's a tricked-out Media Center PC in the dorm or a value-priced second PC for the home," said Mark Sanchez, HP's vice president of North American Consumer Computing.
