EdgeWave, a provider of Secure Content Management (SCM) solutions, today announced the launch of its Email Data Compliance solution, which protects against inadvertent disclosure of private or sensitive data that can occur through outbound email data leaks. Email Data Compliance can be deployed on customers' outbound email streams for both hosted and appliance customers, the company said.

As part of EdgeWave's Messaging Security suite, Email Data Compliance uses proprietary technology to analyze all information in customers' outbound email messages and prevent any private or confidential data detected to leave the network. Such controlled information includes personally identifiable information (PII), Social Security numbers, credit card numbers or patient health information.

By providing full attachment scanning on the outbound email stream, the platform enables customers to monitor and control outbound data as required by regulatory bodies such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), as well as allowing compliance with various government regulations such as Graham-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

Once the solution has been licensed, administrators can configure the policy treatment for the financial and/or health compliance using the browser-based administrative dashboard. Other features include Lexicons and a logic engine to allow precise deterministic analysis, and proprietary technology analyzes and detects data triggering compliance enforcement.

"Email Data Compliance was a natural extension for EdgeWave's Email Security solutions," said Tim McAllister, product manager of messaging security at EdgeWave. "Our development goals were simple: leverage our existing reputation and award-winning technology, and create a solution that was easy to use and administrate. We recognize that our customers are constantly faced with new and emerging email challenges. With EdgeWave's suite of messaging and data protection solutions, we offer businesses uncomplicated, efficient and reliable means to seamlessly address these mission-critical priorities."

EdgeWave currently provides hosted email archiving that supports an organization's e-discovery, long-term retention and full-text search for employee-generated content. This service is used both for information compliance with a variety of industry and government regulations such as FRCP, SOX, FINRA, HIPPA and GLBA, as well as to improve storage efficiency and associated costs.
