The buy puts CA in charge of a fully-developed suite of network flow monitoring, unified communications management and response time analytic network solutions that should conceivably fill in some gaps within its service delivery portfolio.

CA continues its push to support enterprise cloud efforts by picking up the network performance management firm NetQoS for $200 million.

"With the addition of the NetQoS, CA will further strengthen its ability to help enterprise IT organizations and service providers deliver reliable, flexible and cost-effective IT and business services,” said Ajei Gopal, executive vice president of CA's Products and Technology Group in a statement about the acquisition.

CA says it will utilize NetQoS Performance Center to complement its existing assets within the CA eHealth Network Performance Manager and CA Spectrum Infrastructure Manager product suites to offer customers improved visibility and control of services within their physical and virtual environments. It will also leverage NetQoS to further improve control offered by CA Wily Application Performance Management to help customers develop application-aware infrastructure.

Most notably, though, the new purchase is a move to bolster’s CA cloud support strategy.  In June the company bought the cloud optimization software firm Cassatt for an undisclosed amount. And earlier this month the company released a flurry of  new cloud-related products and integrations at the VMworld conference in San Francisco. NetQoS systems offer another pillar of cloud support by providing the necessary traffic management solutions required to efficiently deliver services in the cloud.

"NetQoS' solutions will strengthen CA's ability to deliver to its customers service-centric insight into network, systems and application performance--with no visibility gaps," said Joel Trammell, chief executive officer of NetQoS, in a statement.
