New technology in a pair of Double-Take product offerings will enable business users to protect and recover their data.

Double-Take Software announced Jan. 9 new technology that will allow business professionals to not only protect their data, but their entire system as well.

The Southboro, Mass., data protection provider will include the technology in its two new product offerings, the Double-Take Server Recovery Option and Double-Take ShadowCaster.

The Double-Take Server Recovery Option will enable business users to restore their entire servers, including operating system, applications and data, by using Double-Take continuous data replication.

"The introduction of real-time replication and protection of system state is a significant advancement in making it easy for customers to recover critical systems," Bob Roudebush, director of solutions engineering for Double-Take, said in a company release.

The recovery platform will use continuous data replication with continuous system state protection, which will allow users to recover their data or server from either a real-time image of the system or a snapshot image of the system from an earlier point in time.

Server Recovery Option will also allow users to recover from viruses, corruption and accidental deletions.

Double-Take's other protection and recovery offering, the Double-Take ShadowCaster for small-business servers, will provide SMBs (small and midsize businesses) with whole server replication and failover between a Windows Small Business Server and a standby system.

ShadowCaster will use Double-Take replication technology to send changes from the production system to a secondary server, and if the production server fails, ShadowCaster will be able to failover the production system to the second system.

Double-Take's ShadowCaster will also enable users to protect their entire server and its operating system, applications and data.

"Data protection should really be about recoverability—making it easy to return to normal operations quickly regardless of the circumstances," Roudebush said.

Both the Double-Take Server Recovery Option and Double-Take ShadowCaster are available now; pricing for the Double-Take Server Recovery Option is $595 per server, while ShadowCaster is $1,495 per pair of servers.
