Technology giant Hewlett-Packard announced the launch of the LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw, the company s most compact multifunction color laser printer. Priced at $349 and aimed at small and midsize businesses, the printer offers energy savings from built-in features such as HP Auto-Off, Instant-on Technology, and both Ethernet and wireless connectivity.

In addition, the company s ePrint service gives businesses the ability to print from virtually anywhere. With HP ePrint, customers can print emails, photos, business materials and more directly to any ePrint-enabled HP printer using a smartphone, notebook or other mobile device.

The M175 printer series enables SMBs to demonstrate the quality and professionalism of big companies while addressing the needs of a smaller business, said Heidrun Gross, product manager of HP s imaging and printing group. With its vivid color output, small footprint and low power consumption, the HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw will become a trusted and valuable business tool.

With Instant-on Technology, HP printers are always ready to print, even in power-save mode. The company said this helps save midmarket companies money because in many office environments, printers are required to perform quickly while producing excellent quality prints. In addition to the number of pages printed per minute, it s important to consider the first-page-out speed, a company report stated. Businesses do not want to waste money and electricity keeping their printers on active mode to increase first-page-out speeds.

In addition, Auto-On/Auto-Off technology automatically turns off the device to help individuals and businesses conserve energy. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that customers waste up to 66 percent of energy related to equipment use by leaving devices on during nights and weekends.

The Auto-On feature turns the printer to full power when a user sends a print job, pushes the power button or opens a paper tray. After the printer has been idle for a period of time, the Auto-Off feature turns the device off. HP devices turned off using Auto-Off technology consume up to 26 times less energy than most printers and MFPs on the market in traditional sleep mode, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions by cutting energy that is wasted when the printer is not in use.

HP LaserJet products with Instant-on Technology use a quick-heating fuser system that warms rapidly and cools quickly. This, coupled with energy-efficient toner, helps users consume less printing-related energy. The company estimates that for monochrome LaserJet products alone, Instant-on Technology helped customers collectively avoid 1.3 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions in 2009, equivalent to removing more than 240,000 cars from the road for one year.
