    Sun to sell Sun-branded Fibre Channel HBAs from Emulex ... Atempo, Storactive forge alliance ... Habeas, StrongMail team to improve e-mail safeguards ... SiliconSystems expands European sales channel ... Spare Backup launches reseller program.

    Sun and Emulex team on storage solutions, Atempo agrees to resell Storactive's data protection software, and Habeas and StrongMail try to improve e-mail delivery. Meanwhile, SiliconSystems expands its channel into Europe and Spare Backup establishes a reseller network for the first time.

  • Sun to Sell Sun-Branded Fibre Channel HBAs from Emulex

    Sun Microsystems Inc. and Emulex Corp. have entered into an OEM agreement allowing Sun to sell and support Emulex SAN connectivity solutions to end users using Emulex LightPulse host bus adapters.

    The agreement specifically permits Sun to brand, sell and support Fibre Channel HBAs from Emulex for use in Solaris 10 and earlier environments. Sun's HBAs will include models SG-XPC11FC-EM1 and SG-XPC12FC-EM1, both based on Emulex' 2G bps LP10000 family of single- and dual-channel HBAs.

    Sun also will integrate Emulex' Fibre Channel Architecture driver into its Solaris environment, which is available on Solaris 10, 9 and 8.

  • Atempo, Storactive Forge Alliance

    Data protection vendor Atempo Inc. of Palo Alto, Calif., will resell Storactive's LiveBackup software through its worldwide distribution channel.

    The combination of Atempo's Time Navigator, a tiered data protection tool, and Storactive's real-time, continuous data protection software will allow customers to conduct real-time backup and restore files simultaneously at any point in time.

    The combination of technologies will help corporations better manage its central storage of data, which is often spread throughout the enterprise, said Atempo CEO Rick Wojcik.

  • Habeas, StrongMail Team to Improve E-mail Safeguards

    Two companies dedicated to reducing spam and improving e-mail delivery have banded together to ensure that only legitimate messages reach their intended targets.

    Habeas Inc. of Mountain View, Calif., which identifies, classifies, tags and monitors potential spam, has partnered with StrongMail Systems, a digital messaging vendor in Redwood Shores, Calif.

    The companies will develop joint solutions to help e-mail senders improve their practices, deliverability and e-mail reputation and help each other's customers, said Des Cahill, CEO of Habeas. Habeas also will participate in a series of educational seminars hosted by StrongMail Systems that discuss methods by which businesses can improve e-mail practices.

  • SiliconSystems Expands European Sales Channel

    Solid-state storage vendor SiliconSystems Inc. of Aliso Viejo, Calif., has signed agreements with eight of Europe's top electronics distribution companies, allowing them to distribute SiliconSystems' line of SiliconDrive products.

    The goal, said CEO Michael Hajeck, is to strengthen the company's presence in Europe to increase its worldwide reach.

  • Spare Backup Launches Reseller Program

    Spare Backup Inc., a Palm Desert, Calif.-based online backup service provider and subsidiary of Newport International Group, has created a reseller network.

    About a dozen resellers so far have signed on to sell the company's automated online backup service, geared to small business and home office users. As a partner, resellers can either receive cash back for every customer that registers for a free trial or share in the recurring monthly revenue for customers that maintain the service after the trial.

    Resellers also can take advantage of Spare Backup's Web-based support, including downloadable marketing materials and the ability to track sales and account activity.
