Citrix has integrated a standalone version of its acquired EdgeSight application performance monitoring tool and also a version specific to monitoring Citrix Presentation Server performance.

Citrix Systems on Oct. 9 announced that it has "Citrix-sized" its acquired user response time monitoring software and made it available through its Global Citrix Alliance Partner Program.

Citrix, which last May acquired Reflectent Software and its EdgeSight application performance monitoring tool, has integrated a standalone version of the tool and a version specific to monitoring Citrix Presentation Server performance.

EdgeSight for End Points monitors the performance of all applications running on a PC or laptop from the user's perspective and EdgeSight for Presentation Server provides user or session-level performance monitoring.

"Both agents share a centralized server so customers can look at data end-to-end, including the back-end infrastructure behind Presentation Server," said Derek Slayton, director of product marketing in Westford, Mass.

By monitoring performance of all applications from the end system, the software can help better pinpoint the source of performance issues impacting Presentation Server applications.

"The user may be streaming Real Player and they can't use SAP being served [by Presentation Server]. We can see the fact that the user is doing something on their device that's hogging resources on it.

Or we can understand what's going on behind Presentation Server into the database or application server because we can see latency from Presentation Server to the SAP server is very long," Slayton said.

EdgeSight is intended to help optimize and improve application performance and establish service levels relevant to business users. It provides real time when service levels are breached.

The 4.2 release also adds more flexibility in alerting for Presentation Server and the agent for the Presentation Server has been adapted for managing a server rather than an end point.

It can monitor the number of active sessions per server, memory utilization per server or other parameters without impacting the performance of the Presentation Server.

To date, some 300 partners have been certified on EdgeSight, but Citrix hopes to see significant uptake among its global network of 6,200 channel and alliance partners.

List price for the software is $75 per concurrent user for the Presentation Server version and $50 per connected device for the end point product.
