STEP THREE: The next step starts the scanning process. Users can choose  “smart scan” or “quick scan.” The smart scan performs a full scan of the registry and hard drive to look for problems, while a quick scan is limited in scope. The best bet is to always use the slower smart scan. On my test system, the scan took some 20 minutes.
