Managed services software specialist Level Platforms (LPI), which offers software for IT solution providers servicing small and midsized end customers, announced its remote monitoring and management software, Managed Workplace, would now be available on the HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series. The company said the expansion would help allow managed service providers (MSPs) address the needs of businesses with fewer than 10 PCs.

The StorageWorks X500 Data Vault with Managed Workplace offers solution providers and managed service providers (MSPs) a vantage point to remotely monitor and manage all small business IT including desktop PCs, laptops, printers, VoIP, routers, switches, hosted cloud applications, as well as the Data Vault system itself. Managed Workplace offers integration with Microsoft's Baseline Security as well as anti-virus solutions, patch management, security auditing, alerting and reporting.

Tom Joyce, vice president of marketing for HP’s StorageWorks division, said small businesses also need performance, reliability and security in their storage solutions.

“The HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault and Level Platforms software provide them with simple, cost-efficient solutions to backup critical data ensuring their systems are there when they need them,” he said.

Priced under $1000 and based on Microsoft Windows Home Server, the X500 provides background features like folder duplication and data deduplication, in addition to data storage, sharing and security capabilities.

The X500 offers both local and remote file sharing via a custom URL, which is accessible from any web browser. The X500 comes with two or three empty bays (depending on the model) for internal storage expansion and also offers external USB and eSATA ports for additional external expansion.

The X500 also comes with a trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software which users can choose to install.
