Microsoft, Polycom, HP Team on Unified Communications

Several technology vendors including Microsoft, Polycom, HP, Juniper Networks and LifeSize owner Logitech have created an organization designed to ensure interoperability of unified communications technologies. The UCIF or Unified Communications Interoperability Forum is envisioned to be an organization that will drive the market for UC technologies, much as the WiFi Alliance did for wireless LANs. Cisco and Avaya are not part of the organization.

Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Polycom are among the founding members of an alliance created to push interoperability between unified communications offerings using currently established standards.

Other founding members of the UCIF (Unified Communications Interoperability Forum) include Juniper Networks and Logitech, which late last year bought video conferencing vendor LifeSize Communications.
