In a move to strengthen its security portfolio, specialty distributor Westcon Group has inked a distribution agreement with ArcSight, a provider of cybersecurity and compliance solutions, the company announced Wednesday.

Westcon will distribute ArcSight’s products in North America for the first time, and expand its distribution agreement in Europe – adding Norway, Ireland, Finland, Sweden and the U.K. It was already available in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Italy.

“Our goal as a company is to be the number one security distributor in the industry,” said Lynn Murphy, Westcon Group’s senior vice president U.S. and Canada. “We announced our intention to build out our security portfolio by bringing best in class technologies to the channel … This is a continuation of that.”

The ArcSight Enterprise Threat and Risk Management (ETRM) platform is an integrated product suite that collects, analyzes and assesses security risk and information across IT infrastructure and helps manage risk from both internal and external threats.

“There is a more complex set of security challenges that the channel has to address. And we see a greater need for emphasis on security strategies in general… you’ve got the proliferation of malicious attacks, a number of mobile devices that are hitting networks. You also have certain vertical markets that have their own set of compliance requirements – health and energy, for example,” said Murphy.

“There was some pretty good customer feedback around ARCSite,” she said.

ARCSite will be added to Westcon Group’s Security Point program. ArcSights products, including the recently announced ArcSight Logger 5.0 will be available immediately through Westcon.

“New cyberthreats and industry regulations are driving increased global demand for security and compliance solutions from a broader set of markets,” said Tom Reilly, CEO of ArcSight, in a statement. “ArcSight is committed to delivering solutions that help enterprises and government agencies alike protect their IT infrastructures, and Westcon's deep domain expertise will provide a strong value addition to our global channel program."
