Distributor Tech Data is launching a software license selector application for the channel that helps resellers sell and distribute software by helping them manage the licensing process.

The StreamOne Software License Selector is a four-step application that guides resellers through the software purchasing process to make sure they have the right software part numbers, accurate pricing and the correct license type.

First resellers select customer type from a drop-down menu from choices including government, academic, nonprofit and commercial. Users can then select by vendor or software category and choose a product from the results. Qualifying questions and the number of licenses needed will help users choose the correct product numbers and pricing. The tool can also provide information on discount levels based on quantity.

For resellers, the license selector tool will reduce the cycle time from quote to license “from days to minutes,” Tech Data said. It’s also designed to lower licensing processing costs and provide accurate pricing, allowing resellers to add software onto hardware sales with ease, retaining their trusted adviser role with their clients.

“Many resellers avoid pursuing lucrative, margin-rich software sales because of the complexity of software licensing,” said Stacy Nethercoat, vice president of Software Product Marketing at Tech Data, in a statement. “Now, for the first time ever, there is no need for a reseller to be an expert or invest in expensive resources or training to sell software. All they need is the StreamOne Software License Selector.”

The StreamOne Software License Selector automates SKU selection and order qualification for almost 40 software vendors, representing 99 percent of the software licenses purchased through the Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor.

“The software channel has been waiting for a service like the StreamOne Software License Selector,” said Fernando Quintero, vice president of channels for the Americas at McAfee, in a statement. “Tech Data is delivering the tools that the channel requires now and in the future and setting a new standard for software license distribution.”

Companies supported by the tool include Absolute Software, Acronis, Adobe, Autodesk, BitDefender, CA, Check Point, Corel, Datawatch, Diskeeper, Double-Take, Ericom, Filemaker, Intuit, Ipswitch, Kaspersky, McAfee, Micro Focus, Microsoft, Novell, Nuance, Oracle, Panda, Parallels, Red Hat, Sage, SAP, SCO, SolarWinds, St. Bernard, Sybase, Symantec, Trend Micro, USA.NET, Vasco, Vizioncore and VMware.
