    CA, Microsoft Partner on New Cloud Platform

    Starting in the second half of 2011, CA's ARCserve SAAS (software-as-a-service) data protection offering will run on Microsoft's Windows Azure cloud platform.

    CA Technologies and Microsoft, which have been partners on various products for two decades, revealed May 10 they have signed an agreement to partner on a new cloud platform.

    Starting in the second half of 2011, CA's ARCserve SAAS (software-as-a-service) data protection offering will use Microsoft's Windows Azure cloud platform as its home base.

    The cloud service will be relevant in environments--mostly in shops which already have CA and Microsoft deployments--where conventional, internally deployed backup-and-restore systems are not keeping up with increasing backup demand and lack necessary on-site IT staff.

    CA Technologies' use of Windows Azure includes support for Microsoft's Hyper-V hypervisor and System Center stack.
